Privacy Policy

This document is a general template provided for convenience. It is not legal advice. Because Backstage processes personal information of young creators, including minors, you should have this reviewed by a lawyer familiar with Quebec's Law 25 before relying on it.

This Privacy Policy explains how Backstage ("Backstage", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the Backstage mobile app, available on the Apple App Store, and our website backstage.ltd (together, the "Service").

Visitors may complete one guest video analysis on the website without an account. Accounts can be created and accessed through the Backstage Web App or iPhone application.

1. What data we collect

Account information, such as your email address and login details.
Uploaded videos and audio that you submit for feedback.
Transcripts generated from your audio.
AI feedback, scores, comments, and analysis results produced for your clips.
Usage events, such as sign-up, clip upload, analysis completed, result viewed, and whether you marked feedback helpful. This includes session activity recorded through our analytics provider to help us understand and improve the experience.
Technical and security information, such as transient network address data, pseudonymized abuse signals, request-rate information, device and browser information, and error reports.
Support messages you send us.
Date of birth, collected to verify age and apply protections required for minors.
Payment and subscription data, only if paid features are added later. We do not store full payment card numbers; payments would be handled by a third-party payment processor.

2. Why we use your data

To create and secure your account.
To process your video uploads.
To generate transcripts and AI feedback.
To show you your history and results.
To maintain and improve the Service.
To provide support.
To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or technical issues.
To comply with legal obligations.

3. Third-party service providers

We use trusted providers to operate the Service. They process personal information on our behalf:

Supabase for authentication, database, and file storage.
Render for backend hosting.
Netlify and Base44 for website and app hosting.
Deepgram for audio transcription.
Google (Gemini / Google AI services) for AI analysis.
PostHog for product analytics and session insights.
Apple App Store for app distribution (Google Play coming soon).
Payment processors, only if paid features are added later.

4. AI processing

To generate transcripts and feedback, your audio, video, and transcripts are processed by the third-party AI providers listed above. They process your content to return results to you. Depending on each provider's own terms and the service plan we use, a provider may also process content to operate and improve its own services. We work to limit such use, especially for the content of minors. We do not use your content to train our own models.

Backstage provides practice feedback only. We do not guarantee that using Backstage will increase your views, followers, reach, or revenue.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers needed to operate the Service, when required by law, to protect our or others' rights and safety, or with your consent.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of the videos you upload. You grant Backstage a limited license to store, transcribe, analyze, and display your content back to you so that we can provide the Service.

7. Data retention

We keep account videos, transcripts, results, and account data while the account is active, unless deleted earlier. For guest analysis, we use a first-party guest-session cookie for 30 days, a pseudonymized network-abuse signal and request-rate information for up to 48 hours, and a one-time result-claim credential for up to 60 minutes. These signals are pseudonymous, not anonymous, because they help recognize repeated activity. Raw network addresses are used only transiently to create a keyed security hash and are not stored in guest abuse records. We use this information only to prevent abuse, protect service capacity, secure accounts, and control analysis costs—not for advertising.

8. Account deletion

You can delete your account from inside the mobile app (Menu / Settings → Account → Delete Account), or request deletion by emailing hello@backstage.ltd. See our Account and Data Deletion page for details.

9. Children and minors

Backstage is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@backstage.ltd and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Because Backstage serves teenage creators, we take extra care with the personal information of minors. We verify date of birth at sign-up, and we apply additional protections to accounts identified as minors (for example, leaderboard profiles for minors are private by default). If you are under the age of majority (18 in Quebec), you may use Backstage only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian where required by law. Under Quebec's Law 25, consent to collect the personal information of a minor under 14 must be given by a person having parental authority.

10. Your rights (Quebec Law 25)

If you are in Quebec, Law 25 gives you rights over your personal information, including the right to access it, to have it corrected, to withdraw your consent, to request its deletion, and to receive a copy of certain information in a structured, commonly used technological format. 11. International processing

Your data may be processed in Canada, the United States, or other locations where our service providers operate. Protections in those locations may differ from those in your home jurisdiction.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you of significant changes.
